    The Tenor Johannes Mayer initially studied music education at the HfMDK Frankfurt am Main, where he also completed his vocal studies with Henriette Meyer-Ravenstein in 2017. As part of his studies, he attended masterclasses with Helmut Deutsch and Andreas Scholl in the field of art song and historical interpretation practice. His repertoire includes the famous oratorio works of Bach, Handel and Haydn. He gained his first operatic experience at the Burgfestspiele in Bad Vilbel as Pedrillo in Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail.

    Between 2015 and 2022, he was engaged as a soloist at the Staatstheater Mainz. Here he appeared in numerous small to medium-sized roles, for example as the servant Zeriffo in the German premiere of the opera Veremonda by Francesco Cavalli (a co-production with the Schwetzingen SWR Festival), as the Danish Knight in Armide by C.W. Gluck, as well as the craftsman Flute in A Midsummer Night's Dream by Benjamin Britten and as Váňa Kudrjaš in Káťa Kabanová by Leoš Janáček. His main roles included Prinz Andreas Stefan in the operetta Märchen im Grand Hotel by Paul Abraham (staged german premiere), Truffaldino in The Love for Three Oranges by Sergei Prokofiev, and Il Contino Belfiore in La finta giardiniera by W. A. Mozart.

    In September 2016, he made his debut with the role of Graf Stanislaus in Carl Zeller's operetta Der Vogelhändler at the Staufer Festspiele in Göppingen, where he took on the role of Monostatos in Mozart's Zauberflöte in summer 2018.

    In the field of contemporary music, he attended masterclasses with Agata Zubel, Andreas Fischer and Sarah Maria Sun. In 2019, he performed as a soloist in the world premiere of the opera Der Fall Babel by Elena Mendoza and Matthias Rebstock at the SWR Festival in Schwetzingen. In 2024, he will perform with the Stuttgarter Vokalsolisten in the world premiere of Bernhard Lang's opera Dora at the Staatsoper Stuttgart. In addition to his solo activities, he is an enthusiastic ensemble singer and regularly sings with renowned ensembles such as the Schola Heidelberg and the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart, with which he has been permanently employed on a temporary contract since September 2022. His focus here is primarily on the interpretation of early music from the Renaissance to the early Baroque, as well as contemporary works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Concerts have taken him to numerous renowned festivals in Germany and other European countries.
